We were definitely treated to some fantastic, yet alarmingly warm weather this last week in the Bay Area, making it all the better to enjoy a lovely brunch on the patio in downtown Pleasanton. The usual eggs bene, roasted potatoes, bacon, fresh fruit, and Dungeness crab were in abundance on the outer buffet, while the crepe and omelet station attended by chefs were on the inner, and the all too tempting dessert buffet was unavoidable on the way to the patio.

At the table the champagne flowed into our tulip glasses, and plates were replaced once they were emptied of everything but the peel and eat shrimp shells. The service was incredibly attentive, when I had forgotten to grab crackers for the crab the waitress offered to bring them right to me, preferring a mimosa to the straight bubbly, a glass was brought right over, and when I was almost locked in the woman’s restroom, the new manager, George Mihailidis, sprang into action.

Among the highlights were the best cheese blintzes I have ever had, perfectly cooked bacon, and the chocolate dipped strawberries that we all indulged in while enjoying the conversation and the coming of spring surrounding us. In conclusion however, I hope to never come face to face with a cucumber adorned 20 pound salmon, again. Oo! And I would be more inclined to dine at this historic establishment if they returned the color of the hotel to its original, subtle, classic, white.
